About Us

VPW is one of ten Regional Coordinating Committees that work in partnership with the provincial Violence Prevention Initiative (VPI) under the current Action Plan for the Prevention of Violence in Newfoundland and Labrador 2015-2019.

Our role encompasses public awareness and education, community capacity-building, supportive counselling and referral, outreach, resource development, advocacy and the coordination of partnerships and programs.

Mission Statement

Violence Prevention West will provide leadership throughout the Western region of Newfoundland to reduce violence against at-risk populations through education, awareness, advocacy and support in our communities.

VPI Strategic Priorities

  1. Increasing public awareness: Positively changing attitudes and behaviours towards violence and abuse
  2. Addressing violence against Indigenous women and children
  3. Increasing participation and leadership: Engaging and mobilizing communities
  4. Strengthening research, policies, programs and services

Board of Directors

VPW is governed by a Board of Directors comprised of representatives from government agencies, community groups, schools, service organizations, and volunteers who live and/or work in western Newfoundland.

VPW is managed and coordinated by a full-time Executive Director.
